Snowy Hydro is a dynamic, integrated energy business that has been providing on-demand, reliable energy to Australia for over 70 years. Snowy Hydro owns and operates a powerful combination of generation assets, including the 4100 megawatt Snowy Mountains Scheme, gas and diesel plants and has recently contracted wind and solar energy. We also provide electricity and gas to more than 1.1 million retail customers through Red Energy and Lumo Energy.
Snowy 2.0 is the next chapter in the Snowy Schemes history. The 2000 megawatt pumped-hydro expansion of the Snowy Scheme will link two existing dams, Tantangara and Talbingo, through a 27km underground tunnel and a new underground power station. It is the largest committed renewable energy project in Australia and it will underpin the nations secure and stable transition to a low-carbon emissions future at the lowest cost for consumers.
An exciting opportunity exists for a Commercial Advisor to deliver the commercial aspects of the Snowy 2.0 Project. This requires strong communication skills, as you will liaise with Snowys representatives and other third parties on commercial issues. With strong contract administration experience this role will be responsible for maintaining commercial information and ensuring Snowys values and ethics are maintained at all times. Candidates with experience in the civil engineering / tunnelling industry will be highly regarded. Please note this role is based on Cooma.
Reporting to the Commercial Manager, your key accountabilities will include but not be limited to;
Effectively manage and challenge claims, variations and payments to tight deadlines
Ability to agree Schedule of Rates based final accounts
Negotiate with main contractor to secure advantageous terms whilst maintaining long-term relationship
Ability and enthusiasm to challenge, rates, resources and quantities
Identify and implement value engineering initiatives
Prepare weekly, monthly and ad-hoc commercial reports and plans, maintaining tight deadlines in line with commercial calendar
Prepare and contribute to accurate commercial project forecasts (incl anticipated final cost and cash flow)
Reviewing contractors progress reports
Contribute to risk assessments on potential contracts and agreements
In addition to the above, our ideal applicant will be able to demonstrate;
Tertiary qualifications in Contract Management or Quantity Surveying. Membership of relevant professional bodies are desirable.
Experience in the civil engineering / tunnelling industry.
Familiarity with EPC and remeasurement forms of contract and knowledge of current Construction Law.
Experience in commercial management and procurement of subcontractors, including chairing meetings, measurement and payment certificates and accruals calculations.
Ability to demonstrate a good knowledge of monthly reporting and earned value analysis.
Excellent team player whilst also holding the ability to work independently on own initiative.
Multi-tasking and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and work to tight deadlines.
Ability to encourage and support junior members of the Commercial Team.
