About the Opportunity

Hunter Innovation Research and Technology initiatives have created unchartered automated data driven decision-making territory for the Australian business. The Systems Engineer - Data Automation will enable, link and maintain next generation industrial automation and integration of data driven asset, supplier and people decision making for the Hunter Class Research and Technology Innovation program. The incumbent will assist the Senior Systems Architect and multi discipline Innovation team to design, implement and maintain the next generation automation Digital Shipyard data platform systems, data integrations, architecture and transference to the Shipyard as defined by the Digital and Data strategies, roadmaps and data program of work.

In terms of specific responsibilities, you will:

  • Provide input into the design, configuration & maintenance of Unified Data System  (automated event triggering, integration management, master data management)

  • Maintain the data architecture models for the Unified Data System and Innovation program

  • Input into revisions of the Digital and Data Strategy for the Digital Shipyard

  • Enable and champion the Data Strategy roadmap program of work to other BAE teams and external clients and suppliers

  • Assist with the enablement of the Digital Shipyard Data Strategy program of works

  • Assist with the design and governance of future state reference architectures for data, integrations and applications

  • Implement and maintain data quality, integrations and architecture models between business system, asset, people, equipment and instrumentation generated data 

About you

As an ideal applicant for this opportunity, youll have:

  • Systems Engineering or Computer Science degree 

  • Current certifications or demonstrated training in data management and combination of technical skills listed under Core Activities section above Security Clearance

  • Must be eligible to apply for Australian Defence Security Clearance Skills & Attributes

  • Previous demonstrated experience in collaborative cross team, highly matrixed approach to identifying and implementing integrated data solutions

  • Proactive approach to safety-in-design principles

  • Ability to represent BAE Systems teams confidently and in a professional and ethical manner

  • Identify and act upon technical risks associated with the system development, integration and maintenance activities

  • Influential communication style

  • Previous demonstrated experience in programming, fusing, linking, integrating and visualising data using tools such as Apache Kafka,  Python, JSON, MQTT. LoRaWAN, PostrgressSQL, MIMOSA data exchange, Restful APIs and DataOps.   

Whilst not essential, being an active member of relevant technical groups or professional bodies demonstrating data management and or systems integration is highly regarded.

As Defence security clearance is required for this role, applicants must be Australian citizens and eligible to obtain and maintain a Negative Vetting Level 1 defence security clearance.
