The Role
We are seeking an experienced and enthusiastic professional to join the well-recognised Macquarie Photonics Research Centre Team. The Business Development Manager (BDM) will be responsible for the promotion of OptoFab node facilities and services, building business relationships with external stakeholders, sourcing and commissioning new state-of-the-art facilities and equipment, and undertaking the coordination of KPI’s and financial reporting within the Optofab Node.  BDM will be addressing complex problems with innovative solutions.
The successful candidate will have excellent skills in stakeholder management, networking and demonstrated ability to manage a technical team, and resolve complex technical, operational and staffing issues.  
About Us
The MQ Photonics Research Centre within the Department of Physics and Astronomy brings together a team of researchers with long standing expertise in lasers and optical physics. The Centre is nationally and internationally recognised for innovation and leadership in lasers and photonics. The focus of the Centre is on fundamental and applied research in the six frontiers of optical science: Photonic sources/ laser applications; Natural & engineered optical materials; Photonics for Life and Health Sciences; Photonics for the environment; Astrophotonics; Quantum photonics – fundamental and applied. Interests and activities within the MQ Photonics Research Centre provide a rigorous research setting with world class facilities, strong links to industry complemented by a strong cohort of entrepreneurial alumni, and active collaborations with major international research groups in photonics.
The MQ Photonics Research Centre houses the OptoFab Node. The OptoFab Node is one of eight nodes of the Australian National Fabrication Facility (ANFF). This entity reports to the Department of Education, and Training (DET) National Collaborative Research Infrastructure Strategy (NCRIS) initiative. ANFF exists to facilitate and assist smaller Australian Businesses, the ANFF user community, to gain access to cutting-edge microfabrication services. In addition to ANFF the OptoFab Node is also sponsored by the NSW State Government. OptoFab is one of 8 nationwide nodes that form the Australian National Fabrication Facility (ANFFL). This facility provides researchers and industry with access to specialist staff and fabrication facilities including micro processing, icrofabrication and characterisation of fibre, planar and bulk materials.
Optofab-MQ has a unique capability in high-speed, precision laser micromachining with over ten years’ experience in this field. Specialising in the rapid production of micro-orifices, micro-features and microstructures, down to 5 microns in size, in metals, polymers, glasses and crystalline materials. The Facility currently comprises high power nanosecond, picosecond and femtosecond laser machining systems, 3D additive manufacturing and device testing and packaging systems. Postgraduate Degree in Physics, Engineering or related, and/or significant years of relevant experience;
A background in laser microfabrication of features with sizes in the range of 1-100 microns and a good understanding of light interactions with material;
Experience with high precision motion control stages and their control including computer program engineering; high power laser and associated optics;
Extensive experience in understanding industry needs and delivering fabrication solutions;
Excellent written,interpersonal communications and report writing skills;
Demonstrated ability in developing and managing working relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders, including influencing senior management team.
A track record delivering customer-oriented solutions.
