Shoalhaven Hospital’s Perioperative Suite is seeking suitably qualified Registered Nurses with experience in Scrub/Scout/Anaesthetics to fulfil a variety of roles.
Shoalhaven Hospital is a busy Rural Hospital which employs over 1,000 staff. The Perioperative Suite has five (5) Operating Theatres where we perform a variety of surgical specialties: Ear, Nose & Throat, Plastics, General, Urology, Endoscopy, Ophthalmology, Orthopaedic, Obstetrics & Gynaecology. We also provide elective and emergency surgery for adults and children in our community.The Shoalhaven area is one of the fastest growing areas of NSW with over 5,000 new residents making the move here every year. The area has plenty to offer with the beautiful beaches of Jervis Bay, rainforests of Kangaroo Valley and tourist townships like Berry, all within 30 minutes’ drive. The Nurse Unit Manager (NUM) Level 2 – Surgical Short Stay Unit provides leadership and management of the team who provide clinical care, administrative management and budget responsibility for the services. The Surgical Short Stay NUM is a dynamic role that collaborates, leads and promotes best practice nursing care in the Surgical Short Stay Unit and promotes a work place culture of safety for all in the unit. This is inclusive of, but not limited to, all care provided to patients immediately post-surgery whilst the patient is emerging from the anaesthetised state, ensuring efficient and patient centred services to enhance the patient’s journey and the patients immediate post-operative recovery, pain control and haemodynamic stability prior to transfer/discharge from the Surgical Short Stay Unit. The position is responsible for ensuring adherence to District, Hospital and unit/ward/service policies and to nursing procedures, standards and practices. The NUM of the Surgical Short Stay Unit liaises with the Perioperative Services Team Leaders and Managers as well as Wollongong Hospital’s Executive Management to ensure the achievement and operationalisation of service initiatives which achieve best patient outcomes. The NUM ensures the delivery of quality, compassionate, culturally competent, cost-effective and efficient nursing care to individuals, families and groups, and communities within the Local Health District. The NUM maintains effective communication and liaises with the Perioperative Services Team and the inpatient ward NUM’s to ensure continuity of care objectives are achieved and effective patient flow. The NUM is a member of the Shoalhaven District Hospital Nursing and Midwifery Leadership Management Team. Performance of the role will be assessed during performance appraisal, to be held at least annually, where targets agreed between senior management and the NUM 2 during the Planning and Review process will be reviewed and future targets negotiated and documented.
Registered Nurse with a current licence to practice from the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
Relevant tertiary qualifications or working towards the same; or alternatively relevant work experience or combination of qualification and work experience in a management role.
Demonstrated experience in Day Surgery speciality.
Demonstrated skills in leadership and management within the healthcare setting.
Demonstrated ability to evaluate clinical services and manage change.
Proven ability to create and maintain a positive workplace culture and articulate and achieve a vision for nursing/maternity services.
Demonstrated computer literacy and confidence in using Microsoft and health care information systems.
