What you'll be doing
We are looking for a dynamic, innovative Experienced Clinical Coder (minimum 2 years) to join our unit. The Clinical Coder is required to assign accurate and timely clinical codes to episodes of care through analysis of clinical documentation using the classification system ICD-10-AM/ACHI and applying the Australian Coding Standards.
The unit prides itself in excellent turnaround time, activity based education, clinical engagement, coding reviews and quality activities. Coding workstations are set up with dual large monitors to facilitate the abstraction of information online using and a comprehensive Electronic Medical Record (eMR).

The role is responsible for assigning accurate and timely clinical codes to episodes of care through analysis of clinical documentation using the appropriate version of the International Statistical Classification of Diseases and Related Health Problems, Australian Modification (ICD-10-AM), Australian Classification of Health Interventions (ACHI), and applying Australian Coding Standards.
Decision Making:
Trouble shoot and problem solve issues relating to the clinical coding function making coding decisions in consultation with the Australian coding standards and Hospital & network guidelines. Some coding decisions may require escalation to the Coding Educator or the Coding Quality Manager. The incumbent is expected to liaise with appropriate staff to achieve resolution.
 











Completion of coding qualifications in ICD-10-AM (either Health Information Management Association HIMAA Coding Course of Australia or OTEN Coding Clinical Classification course).


Demonstrated experience in coding accurate morbidity and procedural classifications to episodes of care using with ICD-10-AM, ACHI and Australian Coding Standards (minimum 2 years).


Demonstrated experience coding across a range of DRG's within a tertiary health care facility.


Demonstrate excellent communication skills, in order to liaise with clinical staff, managers and the coding team in relation to clinical coding


Demonstrated advanced computer skills in a range of systems, including Microsoft office applications, healthcare information systems 3M Codefinder software and Performance Indicator Coding Quality (PICQ) tool.


Demonstrated experience in completing Performance Indicators Coding Quality (PICQ), HIE and error DRG resolution, to improve coding quality.


Understanding of Activity Based Management, Diagnosis Related Group (DRG) assignment.
