An exciting opportunity exists for a highly experienced clinician to join Canterbury Hospital’s Social Work Department as the Senior Perinatal and Paediatric Social Worker (Level 3)!
The successful applicant will be responsible for the provision of primary Social Work intervention with women attending the antenatal clinic, birthing unit, special care nursery and post birth ward. They will also provide a social work service in the paediatric ward and follow up clinic, and will be required to work in other clinical areas as directed by the manager.
The Senior Social Worker will also be required to lead service development and provide supervision and education to Social Work staff to improve efficiency and the quality of services provided by the department.
This position also requires participation in the hospital’s Afterhours On call Social Work service.
The successful applicant will also be expected to have the following:
Advanced level Social Work Clinical skills and experience in paediatric and perinatal/women's health
Experience in working with issues of attachment, bereavement, trauma, child protection, Domestic / family violence, Obstetric complexities including bereavement support for miscarriage, stillbirth or neonatal deaths/ vulnerable families and young persons in crisis situations
Demonstrated high level negotiation, decision making and advocacy skills, and ability to actively work as a member of a small team of social workers
Thorough knowledge of NSW health policy and procedures for Maternity and Paediatrics, including rationale for early intervention, prevention and the appropriate risk assessments
