Based in Tara and operating from within the Fleet & Resource Department, you will be responsible to learn and develop trade skills and to support the Fleet and Resource Department of Council. The major focus of the role is to continuously learn and improve operations.
Diesel Fitter Apprentice
The development of skills will either be focused on the diagnosing, repairing and maintaining of Council equipment such as, loaders, graders, rollers, backhoes and trucks along with providing workshop services across the region.
The development of skills will include the laying out, fitting, and welding fabricated, cast, and forged components to assemble as well as general welding maintenance and repairs to equipment such as machinery, tanks, road construction equipment and building and bridge parts.
The successful applicant will:
Assist and support Council"s Fleet and Resources Team in accordance with standard operating procedures;
Meet statutory requirements for performance, safety and environmental management, and ensuring the customer service standards are achieved to a high standard;
Operate various types of mechanical or electrical hand tools and equipment used in either a mechanical or welding environment;
Carry out daily duties, manual handling or labouring tasks as per work procedures to meet schedules as directed by Supervisor; and
Complete theory, assignments and exams in accordance with the qualification.
The successful applicant will have:
Ability to complete a Nationally Recognised Qualification (Certificate III in Engineering - Mechanical Trade or Certificate III in Engineering - Fabrication) within 48 months;
Year 12 Certificate in Education or be able to demonstrate equivalent related experience;
OH&S Construction Induction White Card or willingness to obtain a OH&S Construction Induction White Card prior to commencement;
Sound level of literacy and numeracy skills;
Ability to work independently and in a team environment to work towards and achieve team objectives; and
Ability to multi-task while maintaining high attention to detail.

Industry work experience within a private business located in your community; and
Experience supervisors to coach, mentor and assist you to be successful.
To apply for an apprenticeship with Council, it is recommended you:
Be between the age of 15 and 24;
Be able to meet citizen, residency and Visa requirements to undertake an apprenticeship; and
Do not have a qualification that is equal to or higher than the qualification in the same field as your apprenticeship.
