The Role
We are seeking candidates with experience primarily in health economics, epidemiology, biostatistics, pharmacy, pharmacology, or a similar health related qualification. People with quantitative skills, such as mathematics and science, will also be considered. The successful candidate will undertake research projects within our health technology assessment team.
A key component of the roles will be evaluating the efficacy and cost-effectiveness of pharmaceuticals and vaccines for the Pharmaceutical Benefits Advisory Committee (PBAC), and the efficacy and cost-effectiveness of diagnostic tests and medical devices for the Medical Services Advisory Committee (MSAC)
You will also be encouraged to publish in leading academic journals and conduct research sponsored by government and non-government organisations.
These roles offer excellent opportunities to develop and strengthen sophisticated skills in health technology assessment, for example, economic modelling, project management, and client relationship development.

Macquarie University’s Centre for the Health Economy (MUCHE) is a dynamic and growing team of health economists and public health experts that undertake innovative research on health and aged care. Our collaborative partners include the Macquarie Business School and the Faculty of Medicine, Health and Human Sciences, including the world renowned Australian Institute of Health Innovation (AIHI) and Centre for Emotional Health.
We are affiliated with several multi-university research centres, including the NHMRC Partnership for Health System Sustainability, NHMRC Centre for Research Excellence in Digital Health, NHMRC Centre for Research Excellence in Suicide Prevention II, Australian Stuttering Research Centre, and the Digital Health CRC. Our collaboration also extends to leading international universities and research centres.

Selection Criteria (All levels):
A post-graduate qualification in health economics, epidemiology, biostatistics, pharmacy, pharmacology or a quantitative degree such as mathematics and science.
Conducting cost-effectiveness analysis of healthcare interventions.
Undertaking statistical analysis, data interpretation and literature reviews.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Demonstrated time management skills and ability to work to deadlines.
Selection Criteria (Level C):
Developing and evaluating sophisticated cost effectiveness models and analysing clinical trial and patient-level data.
Critically appraising pharmaceutical and medical device submissions, either in Australia or a country with similar health technology assessment requirements.
Managing small research teams and undertaking quality assurance.
Attracting research grant funding.
Liaising with organisations external to the university environment.
