Project General Manager / SSE Burton project
We have an opportunity for an experienced and motivated Project General Manager/SSE to join our business based at our Burton project. There has never been a more interesting time to join the world"s largest open-cut mining contractor as we are mining one of the deepest pits in Australia with the extension of the original Burton Pit and have two of the world"s largest hydraulic excavators - Liebherr 9800"s, with a fleet of 797 ultra-class trucks. To support this growth our facilities and infrastructure are being upgraded including a new purpose built workshop.
The Burton coal project is an easy 2 hour drive inland from the coastal city of Mackay and Thiess is the statutory mine operator, with a contract to 2016. We are responsible for total mine operations, including planning, drill and blast, waste removal, coal mining and processing, rehabilitation and loading coal onto rail for transport. With our 2011 production levels set to exceed 4.2Mt of raw coal and overburden movement in excess of 65Mbcm, we utilise a truck/excavator terrace mining method for our 3 operating pits and employ over 600 people.
Reporting to the Operations Manager - Northern Region, this key role will see you planning, leading, organising and managing the project resources to maximise the essential elements of the complex project outcomes and provide strategic leadership and direction to your management team and project workforce.
You will have strong management experience and a proven ability to lead and inspire your people to achieve outstanding safety, production and financial results. Your expertise in the management of compliance and sustaining a high standard of proactive safety and environmental management will see you succeed. You will also be focused on growing the project in a sustainable and systematic manner. Working closely with your client you must have an unquestionable commitment and value for safety, delivery, innovation, promotion of teamwork and have a high desire to develop a high performance team through instigating a collaborative culture.
This senior leadership role requires outstanding communication, commercial, negotiation and relationship management skills. Good time management, planning and cost management skills are also essential as is good computer literacy.
A tertiary qualification in Engineering (mining or civil) is desirable along with your SSE qualifications for QLD Coal Mines. More important will be your drive, enthusiasm and well-rounded ability to create an empowered and challenging team culture that delivers outstanding performance.
