The Tasmanian Institute of Agriculture (TIA) is a joint venture between the University of Tasmania (UTAS) & the Tasmanian Department of Primary Industries, Parks, Water and Environment (DPIPWE). TIA conducts and delivers targeted, innovative and responsive agricultural education, research, development and extension.

Applications are invited for appointment to this position, which will be offered on a full-time fixed-term basis for a period of 5 years and will be based within the Vegetable Centre. It is expected that the successful applicant will take up the position in February 2012.

TIAR is seeking a suitably qualified candidate for the position of Horticulturalist to contribute across a wide range of priorities, including new product opportunities, establishment of cropping in new production areas, and value chain analysis for vegetable and allied crops. The position will contribute to the development and maintenance of sustainable and viable vegetable and associated industries through the provision of research, development and extension services.

The successful applicant will hold a PhD in Agriculture or Horticulture from a recognised tertiary institution and at least four years of post graduate experience in delivering research, development and extension in horticultural industries.

The appointment will be at Academic Level B and will have a total remuneration package of up to $107,211 per annum (comprising salary within the range of $77,715 - $91,633 plus 17% superannuation) with the option of an additional 3% salary loading in exchange for 14% instead of 17% superannuation.
