As the Senior Network Engineer you will ensure that Core Switch network issues with a focus on real time problems and events are resolved within KPI, by performing network surveillance, management and maintenance, in order to deliver maximum network availability to Optus customers.
You will also be responsible for perform real time surveillance on Core Switch network and facilities equipment using the IMSA/Temip platform. This includes the following platforms: Nortel DMS TOPS/100/200/300/SDM,  Nokia MSC/HLR/MGW, Alcatel IN, Nortel MPS 1000 (NIVR, Darwin, Spectre, EOBR, Smartpay ), ASG (Application Services Gateway),  AVS (Advanced Voice Services) , CS2K (IP Centrex), Comverse Voicemail, Excel Switches, Tekelec STP"s, Tekelec EPAP (Mobile Number Portability), RTD (Roaming Traffic Director),VMR (Voicemail Roaming), Motorola (LAT Network), EIR, PVG (txm media gateway)
Your key responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Managing and resolving network faults within KPI, which can be detected via system alarms, network maintenance, or by other means, and with a focus on real time network events.
Differentiating service impacting from non-service impacting faults in a timely manner.
Liaising with other fixer groups including NMC Services/Txm/Mobile/IP, Field, Exchanges, Tier 2, Engineering and Vendors.
Perform network maintenance and routines to deliver maximum network availability.
Escalation of faults to relevant fixer group in accordance with procedures and guidelines.
Escalation of Major Outages to the Incident Control Group (ICG).
Facilitating and managing the implementation of network change, by being the central point of contact for all planned activity, ensuring work has been authorised by relevant parties, work is performed according to guidelines and implementation plans, and confirmation that all changes are tested after work is complete.
Continuous process review, improvements and implementation.
The major challenges of this role will be:

Resolution of network problems, across multiple technologies and systems, in a real time environment, within agreed KPI"s.
Prioritisation of simultaneous network events based upon customer impact, potential impact and risks to the network.
Cross training in multiple technologies and updating personal knowledge as new technologies come online.
Maintaining good working relationships with internal customers and other fixer groups, to continually improve customer service levels and experience.
Improving network management techniques to better fault response and restoration times
To meet these challenges and be effective in this role you possess the following:
Appropriate Certificate, Diploma or Degree in Telecommunications, Electronics or IT.
Experience in the operation, maintenance and analysis of telecommunications networks and associated equipment.
Ability to adapt to change as the position presents itself with the changing technologies being implemented into the network
Ability to plan, organise and manage own work.
Ability to plan, organise and coordinate the work of others.
High level of computer skills.
High level of analytical skills.
Effective and efficient communication with others.
