Patch.com, a family of AOL-run Web sites covering community news, is coming to the Nyack-Piermont region. Patch has several dozen sites throughout the metro area, including all around Westchester County, and is expanding to Rockland. Tour an existing site at http://larchmont.patch.com/ or http://rye.patch.com.
Nyack-Piermont Patch is looking for freelancers with strong writing and reporting skills to cover city-specific events, breaking news, investigative pieces, features, sports and more. Each Patch site also seeks columnists to cover issues like politics and government, business, real estate, local economics and more.
Ideal candidates are based in Nyack-Piermont, or nearby. Candidates will pitch ideas as well as cover assigned stories. You should be adept at online storytelling, as you will work in the Patch content management system and produce stories with links to relevant online resources, upload your photos or videos and jump in and engage with readers who comment on your stories. Payment ranges from $50 to $200 or more, depending on the length of the story and the reporting time involved.
