McArthur River Mining Pty Ltd operates a zinc-lead-silver mine in which 2.2 million tonnes of ore is extracted each year producing 360,000 tonnes of concentrate for shipping to smelters in Europe and

Asia .  The McArthur River Mine is 100% owned by Xstrata and is located in the Gulf of Carpentaria region of the

Northern Territory , 60km south of Borroloola.
We are seeking a suitably qualified person to fill the vacancy of Senior Metallurgist to join our technical staff. Reporting to the Technical Superintendent, the successful applicant will provide technical advice and direction to the operating and maintenance crews.  Key responsibilities of the role are the monitoring and control of metallurgical operations to ensure budget targets are achieved and the daily, weekly, and monthly reporting of concentrator performance. The position has responsibilities for project work associated with concentrator improvement initiatives.
The successful applicant will be expected to take responsibility and ownership of process decisions and directives for the SAG milling, fine-grinding and flotation areas of the plant. The successful applicant will be required to gain an advanced understanding of process control systems such as the Yokogawa DCS, Expert System control, OSI – PI and on – stream analysis instruments.
 Selection Criteria:
Suitable degree or diploma qualification in the fields of metallurgy / minerals processing or chemical engineering;






Experience working in an autonomous role, excellent time management and organisational skills; and


The successful applicant must be highly self-motivated, keen to learn and possess the ability to perform without supervision.


This position is based primarily at the McArthur River Mine Site working 5 days on 2 days off, 4 days on 3 days off FIFO Darwin roster. Permanent motel-style camp accommodation has been constructed 2km from the mine site, including recreational and sporting facilities.  The successful applicant will be provided with an attractive remuneration package, consummate with their experience and skills base.
