Working in collaboration with a highly talented group of professionals and experts in their field, you as the Group Manager, Geotechnical Engineering will be responsible for ensuring the maximum value is obtained from mining operations and projects, as well as the entire value chain. This will be through sound geotechnical design, operation and risk management practice throughout Newcrest Mining.
The dimensions of this position cover the following:
Setting and maintaining processes and standards for geotechnical engineering company wide
Optimisation of site and Newcrest wide geotechnical engineering input into operations and project studies and construction
Identification, implementation and commutation of technical improvements to operations and projects
Development and improvement of Newcrest geotechnical engineering technical capabilities
To be considered for this challenging and rewarding opportunity, you will possess the following key skills, experiences and attributes:
Tertiary qualifications in Mining Engineering, Geological Engineering, Civil Engineering or Geology post graduate qualifications in mining geomechanics, geotechnical engineering and other relevant training
Substantial experience in geotechnical engineering in mining
Highly adept in technical components of geotechnical engineering
Significant experience within the metalliferous / hard rock environment
Well developed communication, influencing and leadership skills
The ability to project manage, lead and motivate teams, multi task and drive best practice mythologies across the entire value chain
Ability to build robust professional relationships with both internal and external stakeholders
It would be desirable for you to possess the following:
Geotechnical engineering experience from large underground operations utilising varying mining methods and in varying rock mass conditions
Geotechnical engineering experience from large open pit operations in varying rock mass conditions
Geotechnical engineering experience from narrow vein operations in varying rock mass conditions including backfill
Risk assessment and management in geotechnical engineering for project evaluation and operations
