Advertisement CSIRO Petroleum is an independent supplier of R&D to Australia"s oil and gas industries. Research covers the development of oil and gas resources, from exploration to production. The Division is seeking to employ a Rock Testing Laboratory Technician within the Improved Drilling and Well Performance Stream. The Rock Testing Laboratory Technician will be required to conduct drilling mechanics tests, fluids and rock material testing, and other types of laboratory testing. The successful candidate will join a diverse team of technicians providing support to Research Scientists at the Australian Resources Research Centre (ARRC). On the job training will be provided as required. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are encouraged to apply. back to top Position Description Primary duties of this position will include: Participation in / carrying out of testing programs, processing of data and preparation of graphs Maintenance of specimen and data registers Purchasing chemicals and mud additives and maintaining stock Trouble-shooting and identification of equipment faults Carrying out assigned tasks as agreed, on a timely basis Provision of a workplace and working environment that is safe and without risk to the health and safety of people in the relevant work area back to top Selection Criteria Applicants must address the selection criteria. Basic concept of equipment calibration. Experience with programs in the standard Microsoft suite, particularly Word and Excel. Basic procurement skills for equipment and services. Ability to identify equipment faults and arrange appropriate remedial action. Good written and oral communication skills. Ability to perform independently as well as being an integral member of a team. Desirable Experience in a soils/rock/concrete laboratory an advantage. Experience in sample preparation: rock coring/cutting and grinding. Understanding of laboratory based computer programs (eg.
