This position is a fixed term appointment for a period of three years to contribute to the development for the MMTk memory management framework. MMTk is internationally renowned as the leading platform for garbage collection research and development. The project is undergoing a complete re-write with substantial support from industrial partners and the Australian Research Council. The project is being transformed to work directly with the most widely used virtual machines in academia and industry. Our initial porting targets are OpenJDK and Chromium’s V8. Applications are particularly invited from developers and researchers whose expertise is in the area of the development of performance-oriented open source systems software, ideally with experience with Rust. Longer term and/or ongoing appointment may be offered in exceptional cases subject to performance and budget availability as well the candidate’s demonstrated capability and desire to complement the Research School of Computer Science strategic agendas in teaching, research and broader engagement within the University and community.
