This position is a 12 month fixed term appointment to contribute to to metamaterial design with machine learning and optimization. Applications are particularly invited from researchers whose expertise are in the areas of mechanics, materials engineering and machine learning within the materials and manufacturing group at RSEEME and whose breadth of vision reaches across traditional discipline silos. Metamaterial is a new and innovative project that is rapidly developing its scope and reach. You will provide technical and logistic support to an Australian Research Council (ARC) Discovery Project focused on the metamaterials design and machine learning: one quantifying how machine learning and topology optimization can contribute to metamaterials design; and the second using skills of numerical simulation and bandgap analysis to make predictions physical and mechanical performance of metamaterials. The ARC project requires collaboration with researchers in different academic disciplines at ANU and other universities.
Applications are invited from individuals who love solving problems, investigating advanced materials and machine learning, and working as part of a team. The successful candidate will display a desire to contribute to world-leading materials design and manufacturing research and will have in-depth knowledge of current modeling methods. You will also be committed to sharing your knowledge with the community to improve bandgap performance of metamaterials for both materials and mechanics engineering.
